rén ruò zhēnnéng zhuǎnshì
If man really could have multiple livetimes.
shíjiān ruò zhēnyǒu lúnhuí
If reincarnation indeed exists.
nà wǒ de ài
Then, my Love,
wǒmen qiánshì shì shénme
what had we been in prior lifes?
nǐ ruò céng shì jiāngnán de cǎi lián nǚzǐ
If you were a southern girl picking lotus,
wǒ bì shì nǐ hào wàn xià cuòguò dì nà duǒ
I surely was a flower that your pale hand missed.
nǐ ruò céng shì táoxué de wántóng
If you were a tuant child,
wǒ bì shì cóng nǐ dài zhōng diào xià dì nà kē zhǎnxīn de dàn zhū
I surely was a brandnew marble that fell out of your pocket
zài lù páng de cǎocóng zhōng
in the grass at the roadside
mùsòng nǐ háo bùzhī qíng dì yuǎn qù
and watching you walking away without noticing at all.
nǐ ruò céng shì miànbì de gāosēng
If you were a monk meditating in a temple
wǒ bì shì diàn qián dì nà yī zhù xiāng
I surely was an incence stick in front of that temple,
fénshāozhe péibànguò nǐ yīduàn jìngmò de shíguāng
burning to accompany you in silence during that time.
jīnshēng xiàng féng
meeting you in this life
zǒng juédé yǒuxiē qián yuán wèi jìn
this is what I strongly believe – has something to do with predestined affinity that was unfulfilled in the past,
què yòu hěn huǎnghū
that was also very vague,
wúfǎ zǐxì de qù fēnbiàn
unable to be discerned,
wúfǎ yīyī dì xiàng nǐ shuō chū
unable to be spoken out to you.
